The upcoming remake of Alone in the Dark is skipping Halloween this year. Instead of inviting players back to Derceto on October 25th, the survival horror adventure will now arrive on January 16th.

In a press release, developer Pieces Interactive offers a clear explanation for the move: it doesn’t want the game to compete with October’s heavy hitters like Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and another big horror game, Alan Wake 2 .

“Our mission is to avoid competing in the wake of Alan’s epic release and escape the dazzling skylines of cities graced by Spider-Man’s graceful swings,” Pieces writes. “We really aim to stay as alone in the dark as possible. To honor this, the spine-chilling horror game has been rescheduled to unveil its horrors on January 16, 2024. This expansion serves a dual purpose: it allows us to precisely perfect the gaming experience, but it also gives us a glimpse into October’s notable releases. A chance to be fully immersed.”

The studio also released a new trailer, featuring David Harbour’s Edward Cornby as one of the game’s main characters, showing off his performance and impressive facial capture.

Alone in the Dark is a modernized revival of the 1992 survival horror classic, starring Jodie Comer and David Harbor as Emily Hartwood and detective Edward Cornby, respectively. Players control a character to explore the haunted Derceto Hospital to solve a sinister mystery, with both scenarios offering different story threads and moments.
