DC has released a look at Aquamen #1, by Chuck Brown, Brandon Thomas, Sami Basri and Adriano Lucas. In the preview, Orm Marius/Ocean Master returns to cause trouble for Arthur Curry/Aquaman and Jackson Hyde/Aquaman.

Announced late last year, Aquamen takes place following the events of Aquaman: The Becoming and Black Manta. That former series saw Hyde finally taking on the mantle of Aquaman after having been the hero’s sidekick for years. Aquamen sees Curry and Hyde investigating an Atlantean sleeper agent after a bombing. However, the incident is actually the beginning of a much larger series of events.

The preview for Aquamen #1 sees Ocean Master attacking Manhattan, forcing Hyde and Curry to intervene. Ocean Master specifically goes after the United Nation Headquarters looking for the Atlantean ambassador, calling her a traitor. As Hyde deals with a giant sea monster, Curry goes after Ocean Master. Just as the preview ends, Ocean Master does indeed find the Atlantean ambassador and Curry arrives to confront his old foe.

Created by Bob Haney and Nick Cardy, Orm first appeared in 1966’s Aquaman #29. Orm is a skilled fighter and one of the biggest foes of Aquaman, who is generally depicted as his half brother. The character made his live-action debut in 2018’s Aquaman, where he was played by Patrick Wilson. Orm is also set to return in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, which is slated for release on Dec. 16.

You can see the preview for Aquamen #1 below alongside the solicitation information for the issue. Releasing Feb. 22, Aquamen #1 features covers from Travis Moore, Kael Ngu, Nick Robles, Jim Lee, Scott Williams and Alexis Franklin.

  • When a terrorist in Middle America is revealed as an Atlantean sleeper agent seemingly gone rogue, the Aquamen—Arthur Curry and Jackson Hyde—are on the case. But it soon becomes clear that the tragedy was not just a single bad actor, but the beginnings of a much larger and more dangerous chain reaction…and the heart of an explosive Atlantean conspiracy! If Arthur’s not careful, the secrets he’s keeping—from Mera, Tula, Tempest, Atlantis, the surface, and even Jackson—could cause a rift from which the Aquamen might never recover!
