Apex Legends Arsenal Patch Notes: New legend, map update, and ranked changes

Apex Legends Arsenal Patch introduces a new legend called Ballistic, with a history rooted in the brutal Thunderdome games. Brother fighters Sok Ling and Kit Siang Foa dominated the arena with their partner, August Brinkman, Sok Ling’s husband. However, Kit Siang’s death due to August’s selfish playing style results in August withdrawing from the games and his family. Decades later, when his son Nate decides to follow in his family’s footsteps, August returns to the scene to make a deal, entering the games once again in Nate’s place.

Ballistic abilities include a passive ability called “Sling”, allowing a third weapon to be stowed without attachments, accessible via the inventory or utility action button. The tactical ability, “Whistler”, fires a projectile that heats up an enemy’s gun as it fires, dealing damage with a temperature rise effect. Ballistic’s Ultimate, “Tempest” provides nearby teammates with faster reloads, faster weapon movement speed, and unlimited ammo, with a sling weapon upgrade to gold.

The patch also brings updates to the World’s Edge map, with detailed details available in the full blog post. Significant changes to the ranked system include new matching ability based on hidden skill ratings, a new scoring system, and a new reward system. Ranked Mode now requires an account level of 50 to play, and there are no more split resets. The full breakdown of the changes can be found in the blog post.

The new Weapon Mastery system stimulates learning about the strengths and personality of all weapons in Apex Legends. Players start at level 1 with each weapon and progress using them in any game mode. Weapon experience is earned through various actions, and weapon-specific trials are unlocked every 20 levels. Players can earn weapon-specific badges, lifetime performance trackers, Legendary Weapon Mastery Emblem Frames, and an Apex Pack for each weapon.

Firing Range updates are also detailed in the blog post, along with the introduction of a new survival slot item called the Evac Tower. This mobile Jump Tower can provide a quick escape or prepare a deadly attack. However, be careful as players can destroy the Evac tower.

The ping system sees updates as low usage pings are removed and new pings are added. The default ping wheel now includes “Avoid Zone”, “Sound Enemy”, and “Regroup” sounds, with an expanded set of options when dropped or in a dropship for the initial battle royale drop. The pinging system also sees improvements in quality of life.

The patch notes detail a variety of balance updates, including crate rotation, weapon crafting rotation, golden weapon rotation, and loot spawn. Weapon updates and changes are also listed, along with legend updates and mixtape improvements. Bug fixes and quality of life updates have been implemented to improve the gaming experience.

  • Added deactivation rounds: 60% increased damage against shields
  • Base damage decreased to 16 (from 17)
  • Projectiles now have a lane: 60% damage kept

  • Added a special Golden Optics drop modifier

Skirmish category

  • Care packages are now automatically sent to the team when they are revealed.
    • This includes empty sponsorship packages that another team has already looted

support category

  • Support boxes will now secure at least one battery in one of the secret compartment slots
  • Support Chests will now award MRBs if your ally dies, even if you don’t have their Emblem Card.
  • Legend Banners can now be designed by any player who has a Support Class Legend in their squad

mixtape

  • New platform screens for Gun Run and Control
  • Display a message in the Kill Feed if Leaver Penalties have been disabled for the match due to an unfair match
  • Control and Gun Run will mark the team’s best player on the podium
  • Control and TDM updated gear (Crate Weapon changes and updates based on meta/pick/kill rates)
  • Gun Run and TDM now have XP bonuses for match completion and match completion after joining in progress

controls

  • Map rotation: Barometer out, Olympus: Hammond Labs in
  • Evo Weapon Change: Evo weapons no longer automatically return when a new rank level is reached. Players now reach the new level and their weapon will EVO when the player saves their weapon in any form (reload, weapon switch, hand holster, glide ride, parachute jump performance, etc.)

Techniques

    • Fixed spare ammo meter not displaying when switching weapons from Rampart or Vantage’s max ability

Quality of life updates

  • Removed the automatic taunt prompt on a killed enemy
  • Ziplines can now be ridden while the logo capture animation is playing
  • Reduce the impact of bullets on the visual effects on the snow

LIVEAPI improvements and documentation

This season will have some updates to the LiveAPI based on player and developer feedback. This includes improvements to existing functions and messages, new events, and extensive documentation additions including some examples in Python.

  • Support for Secure WebSockets Server (WSS) connections
    • Configurable SSL validation, to allow self-signed certificates
  • Verification request through pre-shared key mechanism which can be specified by `cl_liveapi_requests_psk`
  • Newly added game event broadcast delay affecting only real-time WebSocket connections, which can be configured via `cl_liveapi_ws_event_delay`
  • Additional documentation and snippets have been added to the events.proto file
    • It includes sample values, Python code snippets, and expected API behavior
  • Change acknowledgments of API requests not working as intended
    • Introduction to the RequestStatus message for more detailed explanations
  • Fix truncation of 4KB message payload which is mostly seen when using JSON data format
  • Fix PlayerRevive event where the revived player field was incorrectly typed as a string instead of a player message
  • New events for WarpGateUsed and ObserverAnnotation
  • Downgrade most uint64 fields to uint32 to ensure serialization as numbers and not strings in JSON
    • All timestamp fields remain in uint64 format. Developers should take note when using JSON data format instead of Protobuf.
