Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake details the story, protagonist, world, spells and abilities

Publisher Square Enix and developer Artdink Corporation have released new information and screenshots for New HD-2D version of Dragon Quest III introducing its story, protagonist, world, spells and abilities, and several Japanese media have published lengthy gameplay videos.

36 years after its initial release in 1988, the legend will return in HD-2D. New HD-2D version of Dragon Quest III The Legend of Zelda is scheduled to launch simultaneously worldwide on Thursday, November 14, 2024, and will be available to purchase on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam, and the Microsoft Store on Windows. This updated version of the classic game features new cutscenes that add greater depth to the world, as well as voice-activated cinematics and an orchestral soundtrack.

What is “HD-2D”?

HD-2D is a unique visual style developed by Square Enix, Inc.’s own Team Asano that combines pixel art with 3D graphics. Pixel sprites blend seamlessly with 3D backgrounds and are brought to life with sumptuously detailed video effects for a contemporary visual experience reminiscent of classic games.

The picturesque kingdom of Aliahan, home of the great hero Ortega and you, his son and protagonist of the story. As you explore the world and its dungeons, monsters are never far away. Tense turn-based battles play out in classic Dragon Quest style, with you giving orders to your party members. Attack with your trusty weapons or employ a multitude of spells and abilities, each with their own unique effects, to take down enemies in style. Defeating monsters will reward you with experience points that level up your party and gold coins that allow you to purchase more powerful equipment.

—Whether you’re roaming the overworld or exploring a dungeon, monsters will attack you without warning. In this game, you can adjust the speed of the battle to your liking.

—Lead your party in turn-based battles with no time limit to choose your next move.

—Use your strongest spells and abilities and enjoy every fight to the fullest.

—Powerful enemies lurk in the deepest recesses of many dungeons. Teamwork will be key to defeating them.

HD-2D remake of Dragon Quest I and II Coming soon

As if the excitement wasn’t enough, a HD-2D remake of Dragon Quest I and II The release is planned for 2025. The original games were released in numerical order, surprising players as the truth of the story was revealed.
