With only a few months left before Genshin Impact is expected to take players on a journey to the nation of justice, Fontaine, players are eagerly speculating what’s to come in a place rife with controversy. In the Version 3.7 Livestream, developers added a sneaky teaser after the voice actors said their goodbyes: a short clip of the Traveler swimming underwater.
Fontaine is a nation ruled by the Hydro Archon, with a topography that’s said to be surrounded by water and houses a complex sewer system. Developers have previously mentioned that every new nation is expected to come with unique exploration mechanics. These manifested as Thunder Spheres in Inazuma and Four-Leaf Sigils in Sumeru. They’ve also been indirectly expanding Teyvat’s map through quirks like The Chasm’s vertical map, limited-time areas (Golden Apple Archipelago and Three Realms Gateway), and Sumeru’s underground regions.

With so many exciting ways to get around Teyvat, players have been speculating what Fontaine will bring to its corner of the world. And with the trailer in the Version 3.7 Special Program, it seems as though the nation of justice could include the highly-anticipated underwater exploration mechanic. In the trailer, the Traveler can be seen swimming among fish and coral reefs—a stark contrast to the existing Stamina-dependent swimming system.
However, HoYoverse never confirmed whether or not the clip is of Fontaine. The yearly summer event will take place before players can dive into the new region. Traditionally, this has been held in the Golden Apple Archipelago, but leakers claim that the Genshin Impact may introduce a new area instead. It’s described to be a fantasy-themed place with machine-like elements.
