A senior producer of TT Games revealed that there will be over 400 playable characters to choose from in their upcoming title, LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga.

Senior producer James Burgon told GameSpot about the action-packed addition to the LEGO Star Wars series. While creating a game that covers nine movies, it was a challenge to set a limit on how many characters the team should include. Burgon stated, “It was a struggle to keep the playable number below 400, but in terms of NPC’s I think we almost hit 800!”

The sheer number of playable Jedi, Sith, droids, rebels and bounty hunters from across the galaxy isn’t the only thing fans can look forward to. The combat system of The Skywalker Saga has been changed drastically from previous versions with enemies and allies alike having more options at their disposal. One such change is the addition of character classes, which will allow players to use unique upgrades and make the most out of each character’s quirks. Burgon explained, “You can upgrade Protocol Droids to emit shockwaves when they detach their upper and lower halves, stunning all enemies in a small radius.”

Force abilities and blasters also received an overhaul with free-aiming mechanics. Players will be able to fully interact with their environment by grabbing and throwing LEGO blocks, dropping enemies with laser precision and ducking for cover when things get too hot in a firefight.

The previous installment in the series, LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens, was released in 2016, so The Skywalker Saga will be the first to include The Last Jedi and The Rise Of Skywalker. As with the other games in the LEGO Star Wars series, a single character from the films may have multiple playable versions each counting as a separate playable character.

Despite the possibility of these 400 characters including some repeats, this still leaves a lot of room for characters not yet seen in a LEGO Star Wars title. Burgon mentioned, “The Star Wars galaxy is so rich with creatures and alien races that it was difficult to define a cut off point, but I think hardcore fans of Star Wars are going to be pleasantly surprised at who made it into the roster.”

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is scheduled for release on April 5. It will be available on Microsoft Windows, Nintendo Switch, Playstation 4, Playstation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.
