Here’s an overview of the game, via MAGES:

Join the ogre sisters Ran, Hana and Yume, and their feline mentor, Iroha, in battle against popular fairy tale heroes turned villains through this tongue-in-cheek, action-packed 2D fighting game set in modern Japan.

Hundreds of years ago, ogres lived alongside humanity. These ogres were known to cause countless problems to the humans they encountered, causing them to be feared and hated, considered monsters and demons.

One day, a trio of future folk heroes named Momotaro, Kintaro and Issuntaro decided that enough was enough and set foot in the land where the ogres came from: Onigashima. Their goal was to confront the ogres on their own territory and finish them off once and for all… and so they did.

After a long fight, Momotaro and his crew managed to successfully defeat the leader of the ogres: the beautiful and feared Iroha (CV: Yukari Tamura). And with the defeat of Iroha, the ogres fell into ruin and peace reigned again for humanity. Momotaro, Kintaro and Issuntaro were proclaimed heroes and they all lived happily ever after…

Or did they?

Tokyo, today.

Iroha, having used an ancient technique for reincarnation on herself moments before her death, has lived many lives in many forms. Finally, after almost losing hope, she discovers the last surviving ogres: a trio of sisters named after her former homeland, Onigashima. She (or, now, he, as a male cat) raises them as her own, strictly teaching them the ways of the sword so that she can one day lead them into battle against Momotaro and claim the right of the ogres. place in society.

And luckily for them, Momotaro is still out there! Specifically, a guy named Momotaro, who turns out to be a 37th generation descendant of the original, has coincidentally been working day in and day out as a host in the red light district, and has finally reached his breaking point. He now he has PLANS, and suffice to say they aren’t exactly folk-heroic.

So hey, this was supposed to just be a little revenge story, but with Momotaro suddenly turning evil due to systemic depression, maybe the ogres can be the good guys this time! Lucky them… them, I guess?

What is this story?

  • Playable characters
    • Ran (voiced by Yoko Hikasa) – The middle sister. She always has a sword ready. She controls fire innately, so many of her techniques are related to fire. More of a doer than a thinker, Ran is the type to strike first and ask questions later. He seems stoic but trustworthy.
    • hana (voiced by Ayumi Takeishi) – The older sister. Armed with a whip and a long bow. Don’t let her soft voice and seemingly calm personality fool you: she’s 100 percent sadistic. If you cross a line with her, she will ruin you immediately. Generally serious and self-assured, she remains the voice of reason among the three.
    • Yume (voiced by Hina Kino) – The younger sister. Outwardly she flaunts her metal club, but also has bombs ready. She never thinks things through. She acts purely on instinct at all times. Educated through games and anime rather than textbooks, with expected results. She draws you in with her cuteness, but then completely knocks you down with words and weapons as you get closer. Definitely dangerous to her health.
  • Non-playable characters
    • Iroha (voiced by Shigeru Chiba) – Legal guardian (?) of the three Onigashima sisters and overall head of their operations. He possesses the reincarnated soul of the ogre leader who died hundreds of years earlier. He fights every day to turn his pupils into true ogres, teaching them everything he knows. However, in the end, he is still just a cat.
    • Momotaro (voiced by Yoji Ueda) – Momotaro the 37th (Momotaro XXXVII?). He currently works as the number one host at Kabukicho. Though probably not for much longer, all things considered! He’s basically the latest boss. He’s had enough of the host life and now wants to try his hand at being a supervillain. Turns out he’s well suited to the role!
    • And many more, like…
      • Tsuru no Ongaeshi – The Vengeful Crane.
      • Urashima Taro

  • History mode – Select from the three Onigashima sisters and challenge main and side quests as the story progresses, leveling up and earning items and money (to spend on items through online purchases, of course!) that will help you Teach you new skills and improve your stats. The inevitable confrontation against Momotaro! Between each mission, listen to witty and often groundbreaking banter between the girls, their guardian cat Iroha, and a wide variety of villains. This story doesn’t take itself very seriously, and neither should you! Just relax and enjoy the ride!
  • Cooperative multiplayer – Up to three players at a time can join the fray in this chaotic and frenetic mode, where a number of enemies can be encountered not seen anywhere else, and a large fortune can be won through contiguous beatdowns and massive one-sided fights (I mean, it’s three of you against a boss enemy. OF COURSE you’re going to kick the yokai’s tail!).
