Sons of the Forest 06 Patch Notes – Brings new features, balances and fixes

In a chilling open world survival horror simulator, Sons of the Forest has players navigate an island infested with cannibals in search of a missing billionaire. With Patch 06, the developers have integrated a large number of new features and improvements, aiming to improve the gameplay while squashing several bugs.

One notable feature of this update is the addition of pick-ups, allowing players to create stone structures such as fireplaces, walls, beams, and columns. The update also introduces a “Hard Survival” difficulty mode, custom figurines, and an advanced wooden sled capable of holding logs, boulders, stones, sticks, and bones.

In terms of improvements, a variety of changes have been made, ranging from practical improvements to sensory ones. Players can now use the right mouse button to empty the contents of a cooking pot or flask, and the cooking pot will be set on fire immediately if the player interacts with the fire while holding the pot. If a fire is extinguished while a pot is being cooked on it, the contents of the pot are reset to the water, though if the pot is cooked when the fire is destroyed, the recipe is kept. Other cooking improvements include an additional UI for cooking rewards and recipes, simplified triggering of equip/unequip guns, and fish caught in traps will not rot.

To add realism and improve gameplay, several audio and visual improvements have been made, including improving the audio and visuals for lava, adding the sound of thunder to lightning strikes, and introducing a static water drip effect in caves. A new AI feature now has cannibals that will occasionally drag infected companions away from the player.

The update also brings a fair share of balancing tweaks. For example, sleeping outdoors will now result in less rest than sleeping indoors, and how much rest a player gets now is affected by their current comfort rating, which can be affected by certain soups and clothing. In Hard Survival mode, players will find fewer food spawns in chests, less spawning of fish and animals, and slower health and stamina regeneration when cold.

To address several issues, this patch also comes with a list of bug fixes such as fixing issues with the player not receiving any effects from drinking the last bit of liquid from the bowl or flask, and fixing a bug where the lighter is equipped with a tether gun. Seemed weird, and corrected an issue where players got stuck when quickly closing the grab bag after opening it to things like storage, fire, and VA, among others.

In terms of sound improvements, several new sounds have been added, including the sound of the pot lid slamming when boiling, the sound of the cooking pot and flask emptying, and improved sound for the Demon Boss sequence.
