The former Warder-turned-wolfbrother Elyas Machera will move from the pages of Robert Jordan’s novels to the cast of Amazon Prime Video’s The Wheel of Time, played by English actor Gary Beadle.

As reported by WoTSeries.com, Beadle’s recently updated resume contains the info that broke the news. The listing is simple, just “Wheel of Time S2” for the title and “Elyas” for the role, with no indication of how many episodes he will appear in. The director section does read “Various,” which at least indicates that he will be in more than one episode. Beadle’s IMDb page, with over 70 credits, does not currently have any listing for The Wheel of Time.

Beadle has had a long career on both stage and screen, mainly in British television. He’s appeared in everything from an episode of the BBC sitcom The Young Ones in 1984 and a recurring role on Absolutely Fabulous in the 90s, to a longtime spot on the hit British soap opera EastEnders in the early 2000s, to playing Dol Issacs for Steve McQueen in the acclaimed 2020 miniseries Small Axe.

As Elyas, Beadle will take on the mantle of a character who plays an important role in Perrin Aybara’s life in Jordan’s novels. Elyas is a wolfbrother, a man who has a special connection to wolves, which is something that has been hinted at for Perrin many times in Season 1 of The Wheel of Time. Elyas’ ability to communicate with wolves, as well as his solitary nature and golden-hued eyes, make him a strange but compelling figure for Perrin in the novels. His inclusion in Season 2 of the show hints that this storyline will be further examined.

Brandon Sanderson, who co-authored the novels after Jordan’s passing in 2007, has had only limited involvement in the series. “The only meetings I was in were years ago when it was back at Sony and they were doing a movie and they brought me in a couple of times,” he said on a podcast recently. “Everything else has been me meeting with Rafe [Judkins], just with the showrunner.” Sanderson also praised Judkins’ distinct style and said the showrunner has managed to execute it “pretty well” amidst all the chaos of production.

The Wheel of Time follows the Two Rivers villagers Rand, Egwene, Perrin, Mat and Nynaeve as they meet up with the Aes Sedai Moiraine and her Warder Lan. Season 1 is streaming now on Amazon Prime Video. Season 2 does not have a release date yet.
