Akshar Patel’s injury opened the door, but Chahal again ignored it
Although Akshar was later ruled out due to injury, the management took the experienced Ravichandran Ashwin as a replacement for the all-rounder and once again did not consider Chahal for selection. Yuzvendra Chahal admitted to being disappointed at the omission
In a recent conversation with Wisden, Chahal spoke candidly about his omission and expressed his understanding of the management’s decision and admitted to feeling disappointed. Chahal even touched on his desire to represent India in Test cricket, stressing his interest in being on the cricket field in any format.
“I understand that only fifteen players can be part of the squad because it is a World Cup, where you cannot take 17 or 18. I feel a little disappointed, but my purpose in life is to move forward. I’m used to it now… it’s been three World Cups (laughs),” Chahal said.
“That’s why I came here (to Kent) because I want to be on the cricket field somehow. I am getting a red ball opportunity here, and I am really excited to represent India in Test cricket. So, it has been a valuable experience for me,” she added.
It is worth noting that Chahal recently represented Kent County Cricket Club in the County Championship in England, where he had a decent outing, showcasing his versatility as a cricketer.
India’s Journey to 2023 ODI World Cup
As far as India’s World Cup journey is concerned, the Men in Blue will begin their campaign with a highly anticipated match against the Australian team at the iconic MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on October 8.
