Pakistan wicketkeeper batsman, Mohammad RizwanSpirits were high after his sensational century in the 8th match of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 Sri Lanka Tuesday, October 10 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.
During the post-match interaction with the commentators after receiving the Player of the Match award, he lightened the mood with a humorous response that left fans divided.
In a high-scoring thriller, Sri Lanka batted first, amassing a magnificent total of 344/9. Kusal Mendis (77 off 122) and Sadira Samaravikrama (108 off 89 balls) scored a brilliant century for their team.
In response, Rizwan (131 not out off 121 balls) and Abdullah Shafiq (113 off 103) formed a remarkable partnership that enabled Pakistan to chase down the target, finishing at 345/4 in just 48.2 overs. This historic chase now stands as the highest successful run chase in World Cup history.
“Sometimes hindrance, sometimes my act”: Rizwan
What made Rizwan’s heroic performance even more impressive was that he not only kept wickets for the entire 50 overs in the scorching heat of the afternoon but also batted over 40 overs. Throughout the chase, he battled cramps on several occasions but fought on, eventually leading his team to a historic win.
