DELTARUNE Chapter 3 is “virtually complete in content” and “almost finished,” developer tobyfox said in the latest BELOW THE TALE / DELTARUNE Newsletter.
DELTARUNE Chapter 1 was first released for PC and Mac on October 31, 2018, followed by PlayStation 4 and Switch on February 28, 2019. Chapter 2 followed on September 17, 2021 for PC and September 23, 2021 for PlayStation 4 and Switch. Both chapters are free to stream, but chapters 3, 4, and 5 will be paid releases.
Although the original plan was to put DELTARUNE for purchase once Chapter 5 is completed, Tobyfox said the plan has changed to begin selling the game once Chapter 4 is completed.
“My original plan was to release chapters 3, 4, and 5 together,” Tobyfox said. “However, the finish line for Chapter 5 is still quite far away… and I don’t think anyone wants to wait that long to publish something. Especially me.”
Tobyfox continued: “Chapter 4 already has a very significant amount of scenes and enemy work done. Additionally, I hired a new producer whose sole job will be to accelerate the overall development of the game for future chapters. That’s why I feel very optimistic about the next steps of this project.”
The developer also said that these types of detailed development updates will become less frequent in the future.
“I think I’ll pause on more detailed development updates for now. Instead, I’ll just let you know if development is nearing completion or if something funny happens.”
