Interview about Saber

Why did you choose Yamato Takeru as the servant of the protagonist Iori?

Kinoko Nasu: “The story takes place in the city of Edo and Miyamoto Iori, our protagonist, is a real person in the story.

“I intuitively felt that the main Servant should be a mythical figure that all Japanese know, and at the same time heroic and tragic. Furthermore, they would be a top-level ‘Saber’.

“That left me with only a few candidates, and Yamato Takeru stood out the most among them. But as someone so well known, I felt nervous that ‘we’re finally going to face Yamato Takeru…’

“We felt that if we’re going to do this, we need to create a character that everyone is happy with.”

What did you have in mind when portraying Yamato Takeru for Destination?

Hikaru Sakurai: “Yamato Takeru in this title is multifaceted.

“They are a heroic spirit who is at the same time a hero who shines in legend, a fighter who kills both humans and gods, and also a tragic prince.

“In the story centered on the Crescent Moon, they are not only Iori’s companion, but also another protagonist.

“Of course, it is important to establish a character who has these elements, but I kept in mind to portray them as a living person, or, more precisely, as a being who was once a living person, when writing and rewriting the story. .

“Although they have supernatural abilities and speak indifferently, they are portrayed as a human being who has a heart like ours and knows about tears and love.”

What did you have in mind when you came up with ideas for Yamato Takeru’s character design?

Takashi Takeuchi: “I’ve been doing this for all Destination Titles: When I design a character based on a hero, I try to include the character’s image and symbols to make them more attractive.

“We went through a process of trial and error with Yamato Takeru, looking for a design whose real name isn’t too easy to guess, but is reasonable when the name is revealed.

“However, I already had a rough image from the beginning, so I was able to match it to the current design without much hesitation.

“Actually, the hardest part was the hairstyle. After Rei Wataru completed the drawing, we touched up the design to improve the impression of the face.”

What do you think is the most fascinating characteristic of Yamato Takeru?

Hikaru Sakurai: “Strong. Powerfully noble, dignified and… but cute!

“The most fascinating feature of Yamato Takeru really depends on how players perceive this character.

“Personally, I am impressed by the wonderful character design of Takashi Takeuchi, the beautiful artwork and different facial expressions created by Rei Wataru, the charming and sophisticated performance of Hibiku Yamamura, and the exquisite 3D models and direction of the development team by Koei Tecmo. , and more.

“For me, this character is attractive in every way.”
