This announcement follows the runaway success of Nintendo and Universal Super Mario Bros. Movie, which grossed more than $1.3 billion worldwide at the box office. Back in March, I asked Miyamoto if he had any other Nintendo franchises he’d like to see make the jump to the silver screen via film adaptation. “You may know that we now own Nintendo Pictures as a group,” he said. “When we create games, it’s one kind of thing. And when we create animation, it’s another kind of thing. And we want to expand the amount of content we can produce. In terms of publishing or sharing something, I try to hold off until something really good and enjoyable happens. So, to publish in the near future. There probably won’t be anything, so I ask you to keep your focus on this film for now.”
No additional information, including a release window, for the live-action Legend of Zelda movie is available at this time.
