PAC-MAN 99 will be removed from Nintendo Switch Online in October

PAC-MAN 99, an online battle royale game featuring the famous ghost of PAC-MAN, was a popular feature of the Nintendo Switch Online subscription. However, it is now heading for discontinuation. Both distribution of the main game and sales of its DLC are set to end, marking the end of the 99-player online game.

The game introduces unique gameplay elements, such as powerful cookies that turn ghosts into blue “Spooky Ghosts”, and a spooky ghost bite allows the player to send a “Jammer PAC-MAN” into the opponent’s way. Along with these features, PAC-MAN 99 also provides additional customization options through DLCs, including the ability to change the theme to resemble other classic games such as “Xevious”, “GALAGA” and “Dig Dug”. There are a total of 20 classic themes available for purchase, offering not only visual changes but also sound tweaks.

The downtime will follow a set schedule. On August 8, 2023, at 8:00 AM PDT, the game will no longer offer paid custom themes. After that, on September 8, 2023, at 8:00 AM Pacific Time, the PAC-MAN 99 Deluxe Pack and PAC-MAN 99 Mode Unlock will cease to be available. Finally, on October 8, 2023, at 9:00 PM PT, online services for the main game will end, along with distribution of the main game and free custom themes.

Although online services for the main game have been discontinued, those who have purchased a PAC-MAN 99 Deluxe Pack or PAC-MAN 99 Mode Unlock can continue to play CPU BATTLE, BLIND TIME ATTACK, and SCORE ATTACK in offline mode. Furthermore, themes purchased from PAC-MAN 99 can still be used offline. Users should also be aware that any purchased content may be re-downloaded, even after sales have ceased. Since PAC-MAN 99 Deluxe Pack includes all paid downloadable content, users are advised to avoid duplicate purchases.
