Dev Fntastic Early Access is shutting down just a few days after the start of Early Access

Fntastic, the studio behind The Day Before, is shutting down. It announced the closure today statement It arrives just four days after The Day Before, which launched into early access on December 7.

The studio says The Day Before’s servers are up and running, but at the moment, the future of the game (and its 2021 release, PropNite) is unknown. Fntastic launched in 2015 – its first game, The Wild Eight, was released in 2017.

Here’s Fntastic’s statement on its termination in full:

“Today, we announce the closure of Fntastic Studio. Unfortunately, the day before was a financial failure and we lack funds to continue. All proceeds are being used to pay off debts to our partners. We have invested all our efforts, resources, and human resources into the development of our first massive game, The Day Before- hours.We really wanted to release new patches to reveal the full potential of the game, but unfortunately, we don’t have the funds to continue the work.

“It’s important to note that we didn’t take any money from the public during the development of The Day Before; there were no pre-orders or crowdfunding campaigns. We’ve poured our blood, sweat and tears tirelessly for five years. At this time, the fate of The Day Before and PropNight is unknown, but the servers Keep working. We apologize if we didn’t meet your expectations. We did everything in our power, but unfortunately, we miscalculated our capabilities. Creating games is an incredibly challenging endeavor.”

The Day Before went into Early Access last week on December 7th. As reported IGNThe game reached 38,104 concurrent users when it launched on Steam but today, that number is down to 4,197 players. SteamDB. In those four days, The Day Before received enough negative reviews from fellow players to place it in the top 10 worst-reviewed games on Steam.

Over the years, The Day Before has been the subject of controversy, ranging from requests for volunteer work, various delays, broken promises and more. Strangely, Fntastic has scrubbed its entire YouTube channel, leaving the following note as its channel description: “We’re grateful to everyone who has supported us through these difficult years. It’s been an amazing journey over the last eight years.”
