Rubiales announced his resignation from the presidency of the Spanish Football Federation in an interview with Piers Morgan, saying, “Of course I cannot continue my work.”
He issued a statement in which he said that he had submitted his resignation to the acting president of the Spanish Federation, Pedro Rocha.
“I have tendered my resignation as President of the Spanish Football Federation. After the suspension by FIFA, as well as the rest of the proceedings open against me, it is clear that I will not be able to return to my position.”
Speaking to Morgan, Rubiales added: “I spoke with my parents and my daughters, and with some friends who are very close to me, and they said to me, ‘Louis, now you have to focus on your dignity and move on with your life.’”
