Remedy Entertainment Cancels Premium Cooperative Multiplayer Game ‘Codename Kestrel’

Remedy Entertainment has decided to cancel the game codenamed “Kestrel” to focus on other games in its portfolio, according to the developer. Announced.

“Kestrel,” a reboot of a previous project codenamed “Vanguard” that began in November 2023, featured a small team working on the early concept stage of a premium cooperative multiplayer game. It was being developed by Remedy Entertainment, co-financed with Tencent, and co-published by Tencent.

According to Remedy Entertainment, the cancellation of “Kestrel” will allow other ongoing game development projects to get experienced developers reassigned from “Kestrel.” Additionally, investment needs for the project were eliminated and Remedy Entertainment’s overall hiring needs were reduced.

“The codename ‘Kestrel’ showed promise from the beginning, but the project was still in its early concept stage,” Remedy Entertainment CEO Tero Virtala said in a press release. “Our other projects have progressed well and are moving into the next stages of development, and focusing more and more on them provides benefits for us. We can reassign talented ‘Kestrel’ developers to these other game projects, and many of our support functions additionally focus on their operations. This is yet another means of ensuring that our game projects continue to move forward well. I want to thank our ‘Kestrel’ development team. Although we decided to discontinue the project to gain broader benefits from Remedy, our team has done a good job and provided us with valuable learnings. I also want to thank Tencent for their partnership so far. “They have been very professional and supportive.”
