Pokemon Go players are struggling with the Abysmal Larvesta Hatch rates

Pokemon Go’s “An Instinctive Hero” event introduced two highly anticipated Pokemon: Larvesta and its evolution, Volcarona. Unfortunately, these Pokemon can only be obtained by hatching at 2km, 5km, and 10km distances, and Larvesta’s hatching rates were frustratingly low, According to data from The Silph Road.

During the event, which runs from Tuesday, May 2, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. through Monday, May 8, 2023, at 8:00 p.m. local time, researchers hatched 364 eggs and observed Larvista’s hatch rate of 0.82%. The hatching rates for each space group of eggs are as follows:

  • 2 km: 0.70% (1 in 143 eggs)
  • 5km: 0.68% (1 in 148 eggs)
  • 10 km: 1.37% (1 in 73 eggs)

Due to the small number of Larvesta hatches, it remains unclear whether the hatching rate is uniform across the three egg distance groups. However, Larvista hatching is clearly rare. On average, the researchers had to hatch 121.3 eggs, covering a distance of 585.3 kilometers, to obtain a single Larvista.

To evolve Larvesta into Volcarona, players need 400 Larvesta Candy. Assuming the same slot rate, players would need to walk an estimated distance of 13,000 km to collect enough candy. Fans have expressed frustration with the slot rateswith some reporting dozens of eggs hatching without getting a single Larvista.

The event also offers rewards such as increased chances of hatching Shiny Pokémon from 2km, 5km, 10km eggs, 2 x XP, and 2 x Stardust for hatching Pokémon. While these bonuses are appreciated, many players are disappointed by Larvista’s poor rates, which makes it difficult to complete the Unova dex and evolve the Torch Pokémon into Sun Pokémon, Volcarona.
